High & Low Desert Combo Tour with Lunch (6 Hours)
Location:
Joshua Tree, CA, United States
Starting From: US $200.00
This adventure begins in the Colorodo Sonoran Desert (or low desert) as we make our way through the Palm Springs Desert Resort Communities. Along the way, your naturalist guide will share fascinating facts and stories about the plants, animals, geology, culture, and history of the Palm Springs area.
Leaving Palm Springs behind, we will pass through the San Gorgonio Pass Wind Park, where your guide will talk about the 5 generations of windmills that line the banning pass.
As we begin our climb up Highway 62, you will notice the changing landscape as we pass through the transition zone between the Colorodo Sonoran Desert and the higher, moister, and cooler Mohave Desert - home to the stately Joshua Tree and the Joshua Tree National Park, the newest park in the National Park system.
As we enter the park, your guide will provide an in-depth overview of the diverse history of the area and the formation of the Park. You will learn about the plants and animals of the high desert and witness incredible geological forces at work as we visit amazing rock formations.
After passing through the West entrance of the park, we will make our way to the spectacular Key's View Overlook, which offers a stunning viewpoint from 5,185 feet in elevation allowing you to see all the way into Mexico on a clear day.
Next we will hike the Hidden Valley loop, which features a jaw-dropping photographic wonderland of majestic rock formations.
After a short lunch stop, you will enjoy a short guided nature walk to the Desert Queen Mine, one of many gold mines located throughout the Park. Back on board, we will venture off the paved road on our way to Barker Dam, with a short side trip to view ancient petroglyphs.
On our return, will include a photo-op at Skull rock and, time permitting, a stop at the Park's Visitors Center.
This tour is the most comprehensive Park tour available and our award-winning naturalist guides will ensure that you have the adventure of a lifetime!
